Danny's movie gold

AN animated film part-written by a Penarth musician has smashed box office records in Germany and knocked a Hollywood blockbuster off the top in the process.

Danny Chang, of Nutopia Chang in Briarbank Studios, wrote all of the music for the film The Adventures of Felix.

The film is based on a well-known children's story in Germany.

Students of the Nutopia Chang Actors Studio performed some of the songs in both English and German, and the theme tune to Felix was released as a single in Germany.

The music was recorded in Penarth.

The film spent two weeks in the number one slot in German cinemas, having knocked Oscar-winning The Aviator from the top in its first week of release.

Since the premier, the movie has been seen by more than half a million people, and has grossed roughly $5,000,000 at the box office, with 160,000 people enjoying the film on one Sunday alone.

Danny Chang said: "Technology has now made it possible for film and TV to be co-produced anywhere in the world.

"Gone are the days of couriering video tapes from country to country.

"With the rise of the internet, film and music can be uploaded and downloaded anywhere in the world within hours, and we are currently investing to make this process even faster.

"That means that any town - including Penarth - can be right at the centre of the world media industry."
