Fast for day

I AM writing concerning the global week of action that is planned for April 10 to 16, as part of the Make Poverty History campaign.

More than ten million people from thousands of organisations are taking part and everyone can be involved.

I was shocked to read that 30,000 children die every day from extreme poverty. As part of the global week of action, campaigners are asking people to fast on April 11 in solidarity with the 850 million people who go to bed hungry every night.

If you cannot fast, then why not try to spend only 60p on food that day, as that is all that most of these people have to spend?

When I first heard the 60p a day idea I tried to work out if it would be possible to feed my family of five on a budget of 60p per person a day.

It made me realise how much we take for granted.
