Charity tackles drugs

CARE For The Family are running courses in Penarth to help parents tackle the issue of drugs.

Following the assumption that prevention is better than cure, Care For The Family - a charity established in Cardiff but working throughout the UK - has developed a drug prevention course aimed at parents.

The Drug-Proof Your Kids course covers subjects such as'Why Do Kids Take Drugs?','Prevention Tools for Parents' and'Parents Guide to Handling Relapses'.

Further details can be found on their website www.dpyk.org.uk

From April 24, for five weeks every Tuesday, Care for the Family are running the Drug Proof Your Kids course in the Harvester, Cosmeston.

While there is normally a charge for this course, local churches have sponsored 20 places on the course and the Harvester has provided a room free of charge.

This course will be taken by Martyn Ellis who is an accredited DPYK trainer.

Martyn, who lives in Penarth, said: "I've three kids aged ten, six and four. I originally took the course last year because I'm concerned that my kids might get into drugs.

"If I don't educate my kids about drugs then they'll learn about them from their schoolmates.

"I want to ensure that they're aware of all the dangers so that they can make the right choices. The DPYK course shows parents how they can help their kids make the right choices."
