FESTIVAL time comes to Penarth this year from July 7 to July 17.
Following the Town Council's review of the annual Holiday Festival and Carnival Parade, plans are well advanced for this year's event which will now be promoted as the Penarth Summer Festival.
Following the decision to discontinue the carnival parade in its traditional motorised form, the council is planning a new event on the final Saturday of the summer festival, which this year will be July 16.
The event, which will be centred on the Esplanade, will take the form of an afternoon and evening of entertainment and activities leading up to the fireworks display off Penarth Pier.
The activities being planned include a walking fancy dress parade, live entertainment and stalls.
To date a number of local organisations have stated an interest or have agreed to perform or provide entertainment on the Esplanade on the day - including a performance by PODS.
Musical entertainment will be provided by G & G Music, as in previous years.
The Esplanade activities will coincide with Penarth Yacht Club's annual regatta and it is hoped that Penarth RNLI will be able to stage a number of activities including sea rescue demonstrations.
The Town Council is anxious to promote the day as a local community event and would like to hear from any organisation willing to take part - whether by providing entertainment, staging a performance or running a stall.
Further details and information can be obtained from Shan Bowden at the Town Council Offices on 2070 0721.
Details concerning the fancy dress parade, including the entry categories and prizes, will be circulated and published in the coming weeks.
