A PENARTH Primary School will contest the final of a competition at the National Youth Eisteddfod to be held at the Wales Millennium Centre.
A group of pupils from Albert Primary School have made it through to the final of the Second Language Welsh Recital Competition at the Urdd Eisteddfod, with their recital of a piece called Disco.
The final will take place at the Millennium Centre on May 30.
Albert Primary will represent Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan against schools from the other Welsh counties.
The young recitalists, aged ten and 11, have been prepared by headteacher Huw Jones and Kate Jenkins, a Welsh-speaking teacher at the school.
Kate said: "This is the first time our school has entered the competition - and we are thrilled to have progressed so far.
"The pupils have worked incredibly hard to learn some very difficult Welsh words.
"Everyone who has heard them has said how natural they sound and how well they perform.
"Their parents have really got involved and I would like to thank them for their terrific support."
To reach the final the children won the first round, contested between schools in the Vale at Ysgol Bro Morganwg, and then the second round at Barry Memorial Hall which featured primaries from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
