Saints play hearts out but unable to finish chances

PENARTH SAINTS 3 DINAS POWYS A (U17S) 5

SAINTS entertained Dinas A at Cwrt-y-Vil and, despite missing a few key players, put up a great display of football, outplaying Dinas in all areas of the park except finishing.

Saints started brightly, moving the ball around and were unlucky to be two down after 15 minutes, having had most of the possession.

And when a penalty went in shortly after, it looked like a long afternoon ahead. But Brett and Adrian were winning the individual battles in midfield and finding Kyle upfront regularly.

It was Kyle who got one back before the break after Edros had beaten two defenders down the right and played a ball to the back post where Kyle netted.

3-1 at the break was by no means a a fair reflection of the game so far and Saints must have known this and came out all guns blazing.

Tim and Rob were playing well at the back and Kyle and Johnny were beginning to make chances out of the midfield's ammo with Johnny racing in to poke the ball in past the keeper.

Although Saints continued to create chances, Dinas showed what a good side they are by putting away pretty much their only two chances of the half to increase their lead to 5-2.

Still Saints wouldn't give in though, and Kyle was very unlucky when his continuous lob from 25 yards hit the cross bar before Johnny shot the rebound just wide.

Saints were still outplaying Dinas with ten minutes to go and again it was Edros who opened up the very solid visitors' defence, forcing a foul inside the box. Brett, who was man of the match, slotted home the spot kick.

Crawley, in goal for the first time this season, deserves a mention for a couple of fine saves, but Saints were very unlucky not to get something from this game after a battling display against a very organised Dinas outfit, in which they created more chances than the visitors.

Saints would like to express their gratitude to the Top House and Best One for their support.
