In memory of Kyle

FRIENDS and family have paid tribute to St Cyres pupil Kyle Smith, who died in an accident in February at the age of 16.

School friends, family members and football team-mates have raised more than 4,600 for the Children's Hospital for Wales, in a tribute fund set up in Kyle's name.

School friends at St Cyres Comprehensive School in Penarth raised money by shaving off one of their teacher's beards, while football team-mates held a memorial match in April, organised by coach Spencer Lamb.

Spectators were charged 1 entry to watch the match at the Ely Rangers ground in Wenvoe, which will be held annually to celebrate Kyle's life.

The owner of the ground Graham Clark gave the use of the pitch free of charge for the event, with teams made up of former players of Wenvoe Colts, for whom Kyle played until the team was disbanded.

The number of donations received by the Noah's Ark Appeal in memory of Kyle demonstrates how highly he was thought of by all those who knew him.

"We extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who made a donation in such sad and difficult circumstances," said Chairman of Trustees, Lyn Jones, who attended the memorial football game.

"We hope that the family and friends of Kyle will take comfort in the fact that money raised in his name is helping to provide the very best care for sick children in Wales."
