Cant see for smiles

ONE of the most feared players in rugby history was in Penarth yesterday to show people how to smile - and to help get a new entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

England World Cup winning captain and former British Lions captain Martin Johnson paid a visit to pupils at Headlands School, as part of a campaign to raise money for vulnerable and excluded children and young people all over the UK.

Martin is helping to create Britain's Biggest Smile, by encouraging people of all ages to send pictures of smiles online to a special website.

Headlands School in Penarth is just one of the many NCH projects for disadvantaged children that will benefit from the Britain's Biggest Smile campaign. Headlands is the only NCH-run school in Wales for young people with extreme emotional and behavioural challenges. The school recently received recognition from educationalists for imaginatively incorporating sport, drama, art and music into the learning process.

David Haswell, headteacher at Headlands, said: "It's not every day that one of the world's most famous sportsmen turns up at the school. This is certainly a day the pupils will remember for the rest of their lives."

Fourteen-year-old Joshua Yoe, a Headlands pupil, said: "I couldn't wait to get a photograph of me and my mates with Martin Johnson."
