Love found in the lunch queue

by Glyn and Jeanne Davies

IN 1942 I volunteered for the ATS. I was posted to Longmoor, Hants. I had just arrived there and had joined a queue, both male and female.

"Is this a queue for lunch," I said.

"Yes," said a voice behind me ... "Stay in it."

The voice sounded very foreign to me, I turned to look.

He did not look French or Italian and he certainly couldn't be German. I thought perhaps he might be Norwegian.

To cut a long story short, we got to know each other. Two people from different parts of the country, Sussex and Wales.

More than that, we fell in love and decided to get married.

It was fortunate we did, as Glyn, my future husband, was on the overseas list.
