Derelict state

I AM wondering if any readers have notice the dilapidated state of two Victorian houses in Bridgeman Road, namely Normandy and Ashdene Manor.

Two houses extremely close to the proposed new development of the beach front. These properties are declining into a derelict state.

These properties are both outstanding examples of Victorian architecture and have extremely prominent positions within Penarth, being very visible to both locals and visitors to the promenade.

Such properties are essential to the history and character of Penarth.

Not only do they look attractive but they also create an atmosphere that brings visitors and business to the area.

This atmosphere of Victorian character and history is fast disappearing from Penarth and needs preserving.

One can"t help wondering if it is a deliberate policy to let these properties go to rack and ruin.

The land could then be used for lucrative new development.

This is far more of an eyesore than a bit of graffiti.

If young people had inflicted such damage I bet ASBOs would have been slapped on them.

Penarth"s architectural heritage should not be destroyed.

If any readers are appalled by such historic buildings being allowed to crumble and disappear, please write to the planning department, MP, councillors etc.
