Centurions end Sudbrook's unbeaten record in style

SULLY Centurions completed another successful weekend, with both First and Second elevens having comfortable victories, although the young Third Eleven went down at Sudbrook.

The 1st XI entertained the unbeaten Sudbrook, with the visitors winning the toss and electing to bat on a wicket which was very green and certainly not up to the normal standards.

It must be said that groundsman Don Sylvester is having difficulties in keeping all the facilities up to the required standards.

Sudbrook made a disastrous start when Ryan Sylvester bowled the dangerous Ross Lewis in the first over for 0, and Centurions had more success at 25, when Cullinane was caught by Newbold off Smith for 9.

Sully never really lost their grip on things as the visitors struggled for runs against tight bowling, and at 44, J Lewis was caught by O'Shea, again off the bowling of Ryan Sylvester.

Voke and Archer held Centurions up, but runs were not flowing and after 32 overs Sudbrook were 113-3. Three runs later, Archer was caught and bowled by skipper Jamie Sylvester for a very slow 25.

O'Leary joined Voke and took the score to 156. The floodgates then opened as O'Leary was caught by Ryan Sylvester off his brother Jamie, and Voke's innings of 93 came to an end, caught and bowled by the elegant Evison.

One run later, he bowled Heaven for 3 and the visitors were in deep trouble at 163-7. This soon became 171 all out, with Willis run out for 0, and Shaw and Simons becoming Evison's third and fourth victims.

Centurions were happy with their afternoon's work so far, and things got even better as the Sylvester brothers showed their class with a superb 115-run opening partnership.

Ryan, caught off Archer for a lovely 63, has been a model of consistency, while his brother, rock solid all season, was caught for 66 with the score on 148.

Mike O'Shea 17 not out and L Smith 6 not out saw Centurions home to a massive eight-wicket victory.

Sudbrook 171 ao. R Voke 93. T Evison 4-15, R Sylvester 2-16, J Sylvester 2-35.

Centurions 174-2. J Sylvester 66, R Sylvester 63.

This Saturday, all roads lead to St Fagans and both sides look upon this clash as a huge contest.

The 3rd XI travelled to Sudbrook full of young players and although well beaten there is a lot of promise in the team. Mathew Dando, 14 years of age, bowled with some pace as the experienced Sudbrook reached 247-3.

Centurions were all out for 120 in reply, with C Bruce 39 and Paul Harrison 17, the main contributors. A late flurry by Dando 23, gave respectability to Centurions' total.
