I HAD quite a traumatic experience last Wednesday.

After having lunch out in Penarth (at the Salvation Army premises in Plassey Street, where there is an Over 55 Luncheon Club each Wednesday), I decided to go for a walk, ending up at The Head.

It was a very warm day and, exceptionally, I had taken my jacket off out of doors.

By the time I reached home I discovered that both my house key and my car key (linked together) were missing, not to mention my pensioner bus pass issued by the National Assembly.

This could have presented me with real and acute problems, when one is shut out of one"s own home, and also one"s car.

I telephoned a locksmith in Cardiff from a shop premises in Glebe Street run by Mr Regan who kindly allowed me to use his phone (I do not have a mobile).

Arrangements had already been put in hand for someone to call within an hour, and I was waiting patiently outside my house half an hour or so later when two Community Support Officers (attached to the local police) appeared in Railway Terrace.

I was delighted when one of the two, a youngish man, was able to return all my missing property to me.

It had apparently been handed in to the police by a lady, unknown to me.

For me to have been able to recover my lost property so quickly seemed quite remarkable, so I would like to thank the various persons concerned in reuniting me with these crucial items courteously and efficiently.

This was incidentally the first time anything like this had happened in the more than 12 years that I have been in residence at my present Penarth address. I sincerely hope it will be the last!
