AM has new patron role

THE Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth has a new patron - former Holme Tower nurse Lorraine Barrett AM.

Mrs Barrett has supported the hospice and its work for many years and regularly collects at Daffodil Appeal time, as well as helping out at events.

She has held her own fundraising events, and has volunteered at the hospice on several occasions.

Community Fundraising Manager Rachal Minchinton said: "We are thrilled that Lorraine has agreed to become our Patron.

"She has given us such great support over the years, and we are delighted to now be able to work with her in this very special role."

Mrs Barrett said: "I am honoured to have been invited to become Patron of Marie Curie Hospice Penarth, which is Marie Curie's only hospice in Wales.

"I look forward to being an ambassador for the hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Care, in helping raise awareness of the wonderful work that Marie Curie does to help patients and their families during the most traumatic and sensitive time of their lives.

"I am particularly delighted to have been asked to take on this role as I worked in the former Holme Tower hospice in the early 1970s, and have kept in touch over the years.
