Wider issues

THE "Save Our Seafront" public meeting on June 27 was always intended to be about the wider issues of the seafront, including the state of the pier pavilion, the Italian Gardens and public shelter, and the unpainted railings and benches on the promenade.

The fact that it focused almost solely on Beachcliff was very much Stephen Fear"s own doing.

The campaign will continue because the other issues have not been addressed and, as a member of that campaign, I am very concerned that any plans to demolish Beachcliff - with or without its facade - in order to have an underground car park, could undermine the Esplanade and lead to serious flooding.
