PARENTS of the children at Cogan Nursery have launched a campaign to stop the unit being closed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The council is currently reviewing the facility due to falling occupancy of child places.
Donna Harris, whose daughter Josephine attends the nursery, is one of the leaders of the campaign against the closure.
The campaigners have started a petition and have already gathered 500 signatures against the plans.
Donna said: "Cogan Nursery School is very much a part of the local community, with generations of local residents having gone there for their nursery education.
"My daughter has been there for two academic years and her development has flourished under the guidance and tutoring of excellent staff. And it is not just the loss of the nursery but the loss of five dedicated staff."
Emma Bowen, whose son will be leaving the nursery in several weeks, said: "The good staff-child ratio has allowed for increased attention and stimulation which has aided my son's social development and confidence.
"The loss of Cogan Nursery on its present site would be detrimental to the community."
