Bride's nightmare

A NEW bride from Dinas Powys has told how her wedding plans were left in tatters owing to the sudden closure of the troubled Bridal Shop in Penarth.

Elizabeth Guy, aged 19, of Cross Common Road, Dinas Powys, married Jonathan Shaw at Bethesda Chapel in the village last weekend.

But the run-up to the big day was far from happy.

Elizabeth said: "I ordered my dress from the bridal shop in Penarth on January 29.

"Two weeks before the shop actually closed the owner had promised that my wedding dress would be in, and so I could collect it.

"The day before I was to pick up my dress, my mum called me to say the shop had shut and that everything inside had gone.

"I was heartbroken - I had no way of contacting Sally Ann Dodd, the owner, as I didn't have a contact number for her and the shop was shut.

"The only thing I could do, apart from praying, was to hope she would call me. She helped a lot of the other brides affected, so I assumed she'd call me and let me know what was happening. But I was wrong."

But a friend came up with an idea which meant all was not lost for Elizabeth, who said: "A friend gave me the idea of contacting the wedding dress designer myself.

"I looked up Ronald Joyce online, and called their headquarters in Lincolnshire. They were aware of the problems, and told me that my dress was actually with them.

"Two days later a shop in Newport called All About Eve Bridals took on my order. They were fantastic and really understood how important the dress was."

Penarth shop owner Sally Ann Dodd did contact her former customer the following week.

Elizabeth said: "She hung up on me because she said she was annoyed that I had not let her know that my dress was safe.
