Local school wins inaugural athletics trophy

YSGOL Pen-y-Garth are the Penarth Primary Schools athletics champions after lifting the inaugural inter-schools trophy.

The school held off the challenge of nine other local schools to win the competition at Penarth athletics field.

The mayor of Penarth, Charles Curran, was on hand to present the trophy for the first time.

The Pen-y-Garth team was made up of Ben Harding, Lia Thomas, David Parkes, Zoe Stevens, Bethan Yapp, Morgan Williams, Oscar Kempton and Jessica Morgan.

Year five pupils Zoe Stevens and Daniel Parkes both took first place in the sprints.

Bethan Yapp and Morgan Williams both took second place in the year-4 sprints.

Ben Harding won the year-six sprints.

Ysgol Pen-y-Garth boys won the shuttle relay and the girls team finished fourth.
