Winning tennis players keep it in family

ON Saturday the finals of the Windsor Lawn Tennis Club Open Tournament 2005 were played.

And it was truly a "family affair" with a mother and daughter partnership triumphing in the ladies doubles, and a mother and son winning the mixed doubles competition.

The afternoon's tennis started with the men's and ladies singles.

The eventual winners in both matches dropped the first set but rallied strongly and consistently to take their matches by two sets to one.

In the ladies event Lowri Hughes retained her title, defeating Alice Randall and in the men's event Tim Hartland beat Dan James.

In the men's doubles finals Tim Hartland teamed up with Jason Richards to defeat Dan James and Tim Dawes in two hard hitting sets.

In the ladies doubles mother and daughter partnership of Ann and Jenny Davies dethroned the defending champions Kay Clarke and Babs Dawes.

The final match of the day was the mixed doubles event. Mother and son partnership of Babs and Tim Dawes proved too much for junior members Tom Sidford and Elin Rowlands with Babs and Tim winning in straight sets.

The next event in the Windsor calendar is the popular junior tournament which starts on Monday, July 25, with finals day on Friday, July 29. For further information telephone Cathy Cole on 07891 205102.
