PENARTH Lifeboat station has been given a £2,000 boost towards a nationwide crew training campaign, thanks to the South Wales offices of housebuilder Barratt.
The company arranged a golf day at The Vale Hotel in Hensol, where 25 teams of Barratt staff, consultants, suppliers and sub contractors raised £2,185 for the RNLI.
The event was organised by Ann Harris, of Penarth, who is the personal secretary to the Barratt South Wales managing director.
Ann explained: "We do a lot of work for various charities and we decided the RNLI would be our chosen charity this year.
"This was a very personal choice for me, as my late father was very much involved in the RNLI.
"When he passed away last September, instead of sending flowers, we asked everyone to donate money to the RNLI.
"We were lucky enough to raise £1,000.
"We are delighted to add this extra £2,185 to such a worthy cause."
Ann joined the lifeboat crew at the boathouse on Penarth Esplanade last week to present them with the bumper cheque.
Rod Hill, deputy launching authority for Penarth Lifeboat Station, welcomed the generous donation.
He said: "This money will go towards a new campaign called "train one, save many", which aims to raise £10 million over the next five years to continue providing our volunteers with the very best possible training to help them save lives at sea."
