BOTH PENARTH'S lifeboats were on a routine training exercise when they were asked to check on a boat that had run aground on the causeway to Sully Island, on July 20.
Along with the Coastguard, lifeboat crews ensured that the boat's anchor had been laid out properly and advised the couple aboard to wait until high tide, when their boat could be refloated.
The smaller D class lifeboat relaunched later that afternoon to escort the vessel up the channel.
Lifeboat Helmsman, Karl Lawrence, said: "Before embarking on a sailing trip, you should ensure that you are aware of the waters in which you are travelling."
Later in the week, on August 2, both boats joined lifeboats from Barry Dock and Atlantic College, as well as the Rescue Helicopter in a dramatic search for a windsurfer who had been missing for several hours.
For nearly an hour, the Penarth boats searched the area between Penarth Pier and just beyond Porthkerry beach in Barry.
The windsurfer was eventually spotted by the helicopter, clinging to a buoy in the Channel, and was winched to safety.
Minutes after the lifeboats had returned to the Station, the larger Atlantic 75 was called out to tow a 32ft motor cruiser that had broken down off Lavernock Point.
