Seventy years of wedded bliss is cause to celebrate

A DINAS Powys couple with an appetite for life have just celebrated seven decades of marriage.

George and Eleanor Teece held a small family party at their home on August 3. They married 70 years ago to the date at Northfield Parish in Birmingham.

Their only daughter, Kathie Taylor, believes her parents' avid interest in contemporary issues - including her mum's taste for David Beckham! - and reluctance to dwell on the past is the reason why they have been able to commemorate their platinum anniversary.

George, aged 95, and Eleanor, aged 91, moved to Dinas Powys from the West Midlands in 1985 to be near their daughter.

George's career at the Austin Motor Company spanned over 40 years. He worked as a foreman in the experimental department, and was involved in making the prototype of the first Mini with Sir Alec Issigonis.

Eleanor was born in Hednesford, Staffordshire and met George while working in Northfield.

According to Kathie, her parents have always been active. George, a passionate gardener, has only recently given up his hobby.

The couple, who have two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren, were delighted when they received their congratulatory card from the Queen.
