YOUNG CRICKETERS representing Cardiff and the Vale held their own against formidable English County opposition at the recent London Schools Cricket Association U15 Tournament at Ampleforth, Yorkshire.
The boys who took part were not the usual line-up, as many regular team members were unavailable, and this makes their achievements all the more praise-worthy.
The team comprised players from the U15, U14 and U13 squads and received the highest plaudits from both the organisers and opposition coaches.
Each boy gave of his best, with particularly noteworthy performances from Michael Lloyd, the youngest player at the tournament, who scored 78 runs against Cleveland; David Williams, Chris Butlin, Aamir Brohi and Aneurin Norman, who all scored 50s: Rhys Penry Williams, for solid wicket keeping; and to cap it all Aneurin Norman won All Rounder of the Tournament.
Squad: D. Williams (Capt), R. Penry Williams (wk), A. Norman, V. Forbes, I. Ali, C. Butlin, A. Brohi, D. Russell Jones, G. Moorcraft, M. Singh Clarke, G. Hughes, M. Lloyd.
ALL-ROUNDER
Aneurin Norman (Stormin' Norman), aged 14, of Michaelston-Le-Pit has enjoyed a good season so far, notching up an impressive number of cricketing successes.
At County level he recently played a year up at the English Counties U15 Festival at Ampleforth and won the coveted prize of Best All-Rounder for his prowess with both bat and ball.
For the Wales U14 side he is the leading wicket taker, having taken 17 wickets in 7 matches, whilst maintaining a batting average of 37.
And to his delight, Aneurin has just been selected to represent the West of England in the U14 Festival at the ECB National Academy, Loughborough University.
This means he is now considered to be one of the top 50 cricketers in the whole of the British Isles.
He will be presented with his West of England cap by Ian Bell the Warwickshire and England batsman.
Aneurin is also an all-round scholar at Millfield School in Somerset, so he has some pretty famous footsteps to follow including local heroes Simon Jones, Dean Cosker and David Hemp.
