Brothers Ryan and Jamie lay waste to struggling opponents

SULLY Centurions 1st XI visited Panteg last Saturday when the home side made a disastrous decision by putting Centurions in to bat after winning the toss.

What followed was not only sheer class but pure theatre as Ryan Sylvester and brother Jamie produced an opening partnership of 117 off just 11 overs.

Ryan was the aggressor with a brilliant 89 off just 39 balls

When he was out Jamie was joined by Lloyd Smith and they produced an 187 run partnership. Jamie recorded yet another quite brilliant century, finishing on 108 not out, and how he has not been brought into the present Glamorgan side is difficult to understand.

Lloyd Smith, with a superb 70, was warming up for next Monday when he has been selected to play in Matthew Maynard"s 30 over testimonial at Sophia Gardens.

Centurions reached 302-4 at the end of their allocated overs.

What a contrast when Panteg batted. Only the two opening batsmen Worrad 29 and Martin 29 showed any interest in chasing Centurions score. Nathan Gage bowled superbly, taking 3-23 off 10 overs as the pathetic reply stuttered to 166-6 at the end of 50 overs. What a bore for the watching spectators.

Centurions 304-2. J Sylvester 108 no, R Sylvester 89, L Smith 70.

Panteg 166-6. B Worrad 29, N Martin 29. N Gage 3-23.

SUPERB WIN

Centurions 2nd XI had a superb 102 run victory over Radyr to keep their Championship and promotion hopes very much alive.

The visitors won the toss and on a green looking wicket put the home side in to bat - a decision they must have regretted at tea as Centurions reached a healthy total of 246-8.

Dave Fiddler and Hughie Smith, making his first appearance for the Seconds this season, gave Centurions a superb start as they compiled an excellent 103 run partnership.

Fiddler was caught for a solid 48 and Hugh Smith was caught for 49.

Sian Davies then took over in a sparkling 51, Goodway looking out of sorts was bowled by Atkinson for 8, Miller made a brisk 12, Mathew Thomas a hard hit 31, and Gee a brisk 12 to take Centurions into tea feeling pretty confident.

Radyr made a disastrous start as Gee claimed the first three wickets, and with only 18 runs on the board Hawkins and Tyler set about repairing the damage with a 55 run partnership. Hawkins was very much the aggressor with a hard hit 44, but at 73 Tyler became the first of 6 victims for Goodway. Any hopes Radyr had of getting anywhere near Centurions total had gone and wickets fell at regular intervals. The only threat to Sully was the gathering clouds.

At 103 James was caught brilliantly by Gee at slip off Goodway, then Charles was bowled for 14 with the score on 131. Gee took a remarkable catch at slip to dismiss Russell-Jones off Goodway for 11 as Centurions wrapped things up and Radyr were all out for 144.

Centurions 246-8. S Davies 51, H Smith 49, D Fiddler 48, M Thomas 31. M Atkinson 5-61.

Radyr 144 all out. A Hawkins 44, D Goodway 6-44, J Gee 3-40.

ALLIANCE WIN

Centurions Alliance XI recorded an excellent 95 run victory at Maudlan.

Batting first, Centurions got off to a steady start with Evison and Bruce adding 59 for the first wicket before Bruce was caught for 15 off Coomes.

A further 57 runs was added for the second wicket between Evison the aggressor, and anchor man Don Sylvester, but at 116 Sully lost 2 wickets with Evison caught off Jefferies for a superb 75.

Barnett went for 0, Sylvester for 10, and then an amazing innings by Chris Taylor saw him hammer 60 as he hit the ball to all parts of the ground, notching six 6"s and four 4"s as the scoreboard rattled along.

After he was caught Owen Sullivan 21 not out and Mathew Dando 15 not out kept the runs flowing as Centurions posted an excellent 224-5.

Maudlan"s reply never really threatened Centurions total as Don Sylvester took 5-12 in 10 overs, with young Jacob Stone picking up 3-31 to send the home side back to the pavilion for just 129, giving Sully victory by 95 runs.

Centurions 224-5. T Evison 75, C Taylor 60, O Sullivan 21 no, M Dando 15 no. S Cavill 2-69, P Jefferies 2-47.

Maudlan 129 all out. P Jefferies 32, W Dredge 23. D P Sylvester 5-12, J Stone 3-31.
