Pub quiz in aid of children's charity

WHY NOT help your community while cooling off at the local pub this summer? NSPCC Cymru/Wales is calling on pub goers to challenge their landlord or landlady to donate funds from regular quiz evenings to raise funds for the NSPCC.

Jo Leonard, community appeals manager for NSPCC Cymru/Wales in the South East said: "A local pub quiz night is a staple part of the weekly social calendar for many of us, so why not do it for a good cause?."

Kerry Gamecho, landlady of The Old Swan in Llantwit Major, holds regular fundraising events for the NSPCC.

She said: "My children are very lucky to have a caring family environment but there are a lot of children who are less fortunate. I believe that the NSPCC is a very important charity that must be promoted. That is why we support the organisation both as a business and as a family."

Between March 2004 and 2005, 28 children in the Vale of Glamorgan were placed on the child protection register because they were considered to be at risk of abuse.

The Domestic Violence Prevention Service, one of four services provided by the NSPCC in the area, helped 68 children and adults to overcome the damaging effects of domestic abuse between 2003/04. This year the Society will spend £3.5 million on providing services like this to children and young people in Wales.
