Young disabled athletes get own club

THE OPENING of a new sports club for young people with disabilities has been announced by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The Vale Allsports Club will open its doors in September and will give youngsters with disabilities the chance to take part in a range of activities including cricket, basketball, football and hockey.

Based at the Hen Goleg Day Centre in Barry, the Allsports Club will be run by experienced coaches and volunteers.

The project will be headed by club coach Linda Rushton and is being operated as part of the Disability Sport Cymru Club Development Scheme.

Karen Davies, Disability Sport Cymru Develop- ment Officer for the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: "There is a great demand for quality opportunities for young people with disabilities, and this club will provide a fun basis from which they can develop their interest.

"This club is sure to go from strength to strength as it has a strong, experienced team of coaches and volunteers."

The club opens its doors on September 13 and there will be two hour-long sessions every Tuesday evening - one at 6pm for young people aged between eight and 13, and the second at 7pm for those aged between 14 and 20.

Each session will cost £2 per person and as space is limited, anyone who would like to take part is advised to pre-register.
