DINAS POWYS 2
CAERLEON 0
DESPITE missing a couple of key players Dinas were still able to get a result.
Their first chance came in the fourth minute when Jason Cowans crossed from the left but Jamie Dix headed wide.
Caerleon struck back from a free-kick taken by Todd Quarterly which Glen Willis headed over the bar, quickly followed by another header off target.
Caerleon's Craig Jollif broke through the defence and just managed to get a foot to the ball, but he saw his effort tipped over the bar by'keeper Richie Johnson.
In the 25th minute a long ball out of the Dinas defence found Dix, but his shot across goal was cleared.
A few minutes later a good move down the right side gave Paul Carro a shooting chance but James Cairns in the Caerleon goal saved; the ball rebounding to Cowans whose shot was deflected wide. From Rikki Morgan's corner Ramos Karvouniaris headed wide.
Despite these chances Caerleon had the better of the first half and Dinas would have to improve to get anything out of the game.
Within a minute of the restart, the game turned. A through ball found Liam Jones whose run into the penalty area saw him brought down. Dix converted confidently.
Seven minutes later Caerleon almost struck back when a Quarterly free-kick rebounded off the crossbar; soon after another of his free-kicks was headed wide.
In the 75th minute a mix-up in the Caerleon defence saw goalkeeper and defender leave the ball for each other, allowing Karvouniaris to head into the empty net.
Dinas stand at the top of Welsh League Division 1 with nine points from their first three games.
