Jail for violent louts

A GANG of "violent louts" was jailed yesterday for attacking a pub's customers and staff.

Wesley Reekie, aged 20, brother Simeon Reekie, Christopher James and Richard Pace, all aged 21, became aggressive when asked to leave the pub.

A court heard they were part of a larger group holding their genitals and exposing themselves to a group of girls in the Railway Inn, Penarth.

When a barman asked them to leave, Wesley Reekie said: "That sounds like fighting talk to me."

Prosecutor Mike Hammett said: "Another barman came to his support but the four started throwing pint glasses at customers in the beer garden.

"Pace picked up a pool cue and barman Neil Oliver tried to disarm him.

"He was hit to the back of the head and the next thing he knew he woke up in hospital. Another customer suffered cuts to the back of his head from a flying pint glass."

Cardiff Crown Court heard the four unemployed men ran away from the pub but were spotted by police swigging from beer cans.

Kevin Seal, defending, said: "They all admit they have involved themselves in despicable conduct."

All four admitted affray.

The Reekie brothers and James, all from St Mellons, Cardiff, were jailed for 12 months.
