Penarth U11s win league final

Astoria League Junior Cricket

U11B Final Penarth v Sully

ON A beautiful sunny day at St Fagans, six finals were played in the Astoria League - Under- 11 A & B, Under-13 A & B and Under-15 A & B.

Penarth ran out winners in the U11B group, beating Sully in the final.

Penarth won the toss and elected to field.

The two Sully openers batted sensibly and kept their wickets intact.

The next pair were put under pressure by Penarth bowlers Huw Hudson and Ryan Todd, with the result that three wickets fell in the next four overs.

This included a run-out, which involved both batsmen running in the same direction at one stage and confusion among the fielders.

The other Penarth bowlers continued to bowl tightly, forcing Sully to lose wickets. Scott Goddard took wickets in consecutive balls in the middle of the Sully innings.

The Penarth reply got off to a good start with Rob Jones and Oliver Oswin-Dean putting on 22 runs in four overs.

The other batsmen continued in a similar fashion so that only three wickets were lost in the 20 overs of the Penarth innings.

By the time the last pair came to the wicket, only a complete collapse could have cost Penarth the game.
