Jeweller"s shuts after 100 years

A JEWELLERY business that has been open in Penarth for over 100 years is to close next month.

Manning's jeweller's on Stanwell Road announced plans to close in October just a week after news broke that department store Dan Evans was to leave Penarth town centre.

Manning's owner Andrew Quick said: "I have been here for 25 years. This is the oldest-established jeweller in Penarth. I took the business over from Manning family who started trading here around 1900. I would say we are a traditional jeweller we still offer pawnbroking and jewellery repair services.

"We have been made an offer we couldn't refuse and we felt the time was right to go. I think it has become very difficult for individual traders to survive in Penarth town centre nowadays. Ever since Culverhouse Cross opened I have noticed a steady downturn."

The Manning's shop will be turned into a dental practice.
