TWO artists from Penarth will prove music is the food of love as the Welsh National Opera launches a September series of dinner recitals at the swanky Brazz restaurant in Cardiff Bay.
Peter Fielding, from Penarth, plays the clarinet in the Orchestra of WNO.
He will be playing in the recital as part of the WNO Wind Trio, along with his colleagues on flute and bassoon.
The final recital of the series on September 27 features Philip Lloyd-Evans, of Llandough, who is a baritone in the chorus of WNO.
Philip and Paula Bradbury, also of the WNO chorus, will perform some of the most beautiful operatic love duets.
The menu and wine for each dinner has been specifically chosen to accompany the musical fare for that evening.
The first recital, on Monday, September 5, will feature soprano Anitra Blaxhall and mezzo soprano Daniella Ehrlich.
Anitra and Daniella will perform a programme of classics to complement the three-course dinner of chicken liver and truffle parfait to start, followed by sea bass with artichokes, and a pudding of lemon, almond and ricotta cake.
Tuesday, September 13, will feature a quartet of oboe, cello, viola and violin, and on Tuesday, September 20, the WNO's wind trio flute, clarinet and bassoon will entertain the diners.
The dinner recitals cost 39.50 which includes your glass of fizz, three-course dinner, wine and coffee. Reservations can be made by contacting the head office of BRAZZ on 01823 328322, or by emailing chapman@the-castle-hotel.com.
The WNO's season opens at Wales Millennium Centre on September 17 with Verdi's Don Carlos, Lehr's The Merry Widow and Rossini's The Barber of Seville.
It will also visit the North Wales Theatre in Llandudno in October, and Swansea Grand Theatre in November.
