Assembly go-ahead for mast

THE PLANNING inspectorate has granted permission to Vodafone to erect a telecommunications mast off Clive Place in Penarth overruling the Vale of Glamorgan council.

Vodafone appealed against a decision by Vale councillors who agreed with planning officers that permission to build a mast near two nurseries in the town should be refused.

Now a planning inspector appointed by the National Assembly for Wales has overturned the local authority's decision.

Vale councillors and officers alike voiced their frustration at the decision. Rob Thomas, head of Planning and Transportation at the Vale, said the inspector's decision was "disappointing."
