Visitors impressed

THREE teachers on a visit from Japan were singing the praises of Evenlode Primary last week.

The three teachers visited the Penarth school as part of a programme aimed at providing them with an insight into the merits of the British education system.

Shizuyo Kondo, a primary school teacher from Okazaki, said: "It is obvious that the children are very happy in their learning environment.

"And you have to put that down to the philosophy applied by the headteacher.

"There is a very relaxed atmosphere at the school which is very conducive to learning.

"In Japan we don't have teaching assistants and there is no parental involvement in the day-to-day business of the school.

"It is clear that the help teachers get from teaching assistants and parents gives them more time.

"As a result the children get more individual attention - which is excellent."
