Pink ladies march on

PENARTH was awash with colour on Monday morning as an army of pink ladies paraded through the town armed with collection buckets.

The women, all staff from Morrisons superstore in Barry, were in the process of completing a sponsored walk in aid of the fight against breast cancer campaign.

The 12-mile walk took them from the store, through Barry town, through Sully, Penarth, and eventually to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Event organiser Deborah Barry said: "It was a grey Monday morning, but the rain managed to keep off for the best part of the day - that is until just before we reached the stadium when the heavens opened.

"But not even rain could dampen our spirits as we finally reached our destination at 3pm."

After a few "drinks to warm us up" and a bus ride back to Barry, courtesy of Caring Coaches, the walkers were ecstatic to discover they had raised 2,500 for their cause.
