A TEAM of avid surfers and skaters from Penarth have set out to promote Wales' waves by launching their very own clothing company.
Rhys Wilton and Gareth Bennett formed Powertrip Surf in July, a company for surfers and skaters - run solely by surfers and skaters.
As well as boasting its very clothing label, the company also sponsors local Welsh surfers and skateboarders.
Established surfers and skaters Richard Grove and Josh Perrett have been sporting the new designs in contests and magazines over the past few months.
Rhys, aged 29, explained: 'Myself, a keen skateboarder, and Gareth, who has been surfing for years, wanted to provide Wales with its own brand of quality clothing and surfing accessories.
"We want to establish ourselves in Wales first, then hopefully move to Cornwall, Brittany and other Celtic areas.
"And in doing so we really hope to be able to promote young surfers and give them a bit of exposure."
Rhys previously played a management role at Plumber's Merchant, so he mainly runs the business, and Gareth, a graphic artist, designs the products.
Powertrip Surf recently secured a distribution deal with the Stanwell Road surf shop STURFF.
Owner Jane Macleod said: 'We took on Powertrip Surf as we wanted to support a local company.
"It is a big thing to go into this industry. We are a new shop ourselves and we are keen to support a new local company.
"Customers have already come into the shop and recognised the Powertrip label, so it shows they're getting a reputation."
All of Powertrip Surf's stock is made from quality European materials.
