Long road ahead

WORK has now started on the main road between Penarth and Cardiff - aimed at improving the traffic system to accommodate Cardiff International Sports Village.

Over the next 12 months, work take places on the A4232, Ferry Road, Cogan Link and Barons Court Roundabout, to ensure the roads are in place to support the new developments of Morrisons and The Cardiff International Pool when they open.

Lis Burnett said: "The traffic team in the Vale Council have promised us copies of the updated plans of the interchange as soon they come from Cardiff.

"We particularly want to see that they alleviate the gridlock experienced each morning, and that there are safe routes for cyclists and pedestrians."

Peter King said: "The people of Llandough have to negotiate this dangerous roundabout to obtain even the most basic provisions.

"I will be examining the plans in detail to ensure that safe pedestrian crossings are in place on every arm of the interchange."

The contract to carry out the work has been awarded to Laing O'Rourke Civil Engineering.

A spokesman for Cardiff County Council, said: "Laing O'Rourke Civil Engineering are working closely with Cardiff County Council and Vale of Glam-organ Council to ensure disruption to the travelling public is minimised.

"Work will take place continuously over the next 12 months, with any work requiring lane closures taking place during off-peak travelling hours to ensure minimal disruption."

The highway work in-volves widening the Cogan Link between Cogan viaduct and Ferry Road Interchange, and the installation of a four-arm junction to serve the development directly from Cogan Link and indirectly via Dunleavy Drive.

Barons Court roundabout will be replaced with a signal controlled cross road with dedicated slip-roads, aimed at increasing capacity and improving pedestrian and cyclist safety.
