Happy retirement!

STAFF at the Vale of Glamorgan Council's leisure centre in Penarth recently said a fond farewell to a long-serving colleague.

Irene Thorne, a cook at the centre's Waterfront Caf, has retired after 21 years of working at the building - ever since it first opened its doors to the public.

Staff at the centre say they will particularly miss Irene's tasty homemade cakes and scones - and the delicious treats she could always whip up for anyone celebrating a birthday!

Scott Murray, manager of Penarth Leisure Centre, said: "Irene is not only a fabulous cook but also one of the nicest, gentlest, most polite people I have ever known.

"She will be missed terribly by all of her colleagues here at the centre and by our customers, and we all wish her well in her retirement."

Jamie Morgans, the Council's leisure services manager, added: "I would like to thank Irene, on behalf of all her colleagues, for her loyalty and dedication to the centre.

"I wish her much happiness in the future - and hope she will remember to bring us a tin of cakes when she comes back to visit us all!"

Irene was presented with leaving cards and gifts from her colleagues at a special farewell party held at the leisure centre.
