Rehab class is open

A REHABILITATION class for people with cardiovascular disease is up and running at the Vale of Glamorgan Council's leisure centre in Penarth.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation class is the final phase of four recommended steps for people recovering from heart attacks, angina, hypertension and bypass surgery.

Ceinwen Jackson, who has a Masters degree in sport and leisure, runs the class every Wednesday evening from 5.30pm to 7pm.

Attendees are referred either from Llandough Hospital or the University Hospital of Wales.

The 90-minute class includes measurement of an attendee's blood pressure and pulse rates and a maximum of an hour's exercise depending on how well individual participants feel.

Ceinwen said: "I enjoy working with patients who are recovering from heart problems and assisting them on their road to recovery.

"I'm keen to educate participants on the importance of exercising over a lifetime and this class provides an excellent opportunity to achieve this aim."

John Vagges, who lives in Llandough, had a heart attack 20 months ago and is a regular attendee at the exercise class.
