Mum gets silver for invention

A PENARTH mother-of-two scooped a silver medal at the British Invention Show held in Alexandra Palace last week.

Melissa Edmunds has invented a device that fits onto glasses and bottles to prevent children from spilling their drinks.

The new product is called Safe-sip.

Her invention picked up a silver medal in the consumer category.

Safe-sip is a fully biodegradable, lightweight cover that stops drinks or liquids from spilling or being contaminated by insects, drugs or germs.

Melissa said: "My two small children regularly spill their drinks but have grown out of toddler cups. I was looking for a solution to this problem."

The result was a disposable anti-spill device that fits on glasses and bottles of any size.

Melissa said: "This is a really fun cover for the kids to use, and allows you to have a peaceful and dry meal.

"But it is also great for covering your drinks while travelling on planes and trains.

"Also as you can drink while lying down it is very useful for hospital patients and the elderly, and with wider hygiene concerns such as diseases and spiking, by fully covering your drink it stops it from being contaminated."
