Windsor men battle to the end but narrowly lose, while women enjoy a social tournament

DESPITE the current spate of inclement weather, there is still plenty of tennis being played at Windsor Lawn Tennis Club.

Junior mornings, held every Saturday starting at 10am, are well attended and there is a full coaching programme for both adults and juniors now taking place at the club.

The weather did cause the cancellation of the planned Ladies' Vets match at Llandebye, but the Windsor Men's Vets team were in action on Saturday at Dinas Powys.

A combination, however, of wet courts and strong opponents meant that Windsor went down by four matches to nil.

Despite the score line, the Windsor team of Peter Owen and Alan Hope and Bill Ellis and Simon Latham battled to the end and both pairings narrowly lost against the Dinas Powys second pair on third-set tie-breakers.

The club's Ladies captain, Margaret Rich-mond, took advantage of there being no home league fixtures this weekend to organise a social American tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Members enjoyed some excellent tennis which was followed by tea in the clubhouse, featuring their president, Chris Smith's, famous chocolate cake!
