Mayor plays a key role as the lights are switched on

THE town council wishes to remind everyone that this year's'switching on' event will take place in the town centre on Friday, November 25.

Town mayor Cllr Charles Curran will switch on the Christmas lights.

The programme for the event will run as follows:

6.05pm: music by the Salvation Army Band in Windsor Road;

6.30pm: street activities, children's roundabouts, stalls in Lower Glebe Street;

6.30pm: community carol singing with Penarth Male Voice Choir, accompanied by the Penarth Brass Ensemble;

6.50pm: town mayor's speech;

7pm: switch-on by town mayor, Cllr Charles Curran;

7.05pm: dance display by Jane Clark School of Dance in Windsor Road;

7.25pm: Stanwell School Jazz Band - Windsor Road;

7.30pm: Father Christmas arrives, courtesy of Penarth Round Table;

8.30pm: Activities end.

Balloons will be handed out on the night and Father Christmas will once again provide small gifts and sweets for the children.

A collection for the Penarth Christmas Fund will be made on the evening, which will start the fundraising for Christmas parcels in 2006 .

The council hopes that as in previous years, the evening will be well attended and everyone will enjoy this family event that is well established in Penarth's calendar.
