AFTER a heavy morning's rain, the pitch at Swanbridge was in remarkable condition for this South Wales Senior League Division One match when Sully entertained in-form Fochriw.
Sports went straight at the visitors and with Spencer Lamb and Drew Fahiya combining well, the Sully men took the lead when Lamb cut into the box and beat the keeper with a shot into the corner of the net.
Sully pressed again and a beautiful controlled cross from Fahiya was met by Lamb, who drove the ball past the diving keeper.
Fochriw had no answer to Sports' positive play, with Lewis, Yarr and Ferguson outstanding.
Sports lost midfielder Craig Ryan to an early injury, with Scott Walters fitting in well. Sully went further ahead when Anthony Ferguson rose to power in a far post header.
Fochriw had little time to reorganise before another corner saw Gareth Powner lose his marker to head home via the crossbar.
Sports all-round play was probably the best yet, and Fochriw were happy to see the half-time break.
The visitors showed a bit more metal in the second half and did create some decent moves, which the home defence dealt with comfortably.
Fochriw did gain a penalty for a push, but the well-struck shot was brilliantly parried by keeper Barrie Niblett and he leapt to save the rebound.
Sports used the full squad and kept playing attractive football and created more chances, but were happy to see the game out and win three valuable points off a team that are directly behind them in the league.
This Saturday, Sports travel to Tonyrefail, meeting at the Cwm at 12.15pm.
SULLY SPORTS 3
COLCOT 5
Sports went behind to a 10th minute goal against Colcot in the Vale Premier League, but levelled when Marcus Madden beat the keeper after cutting into the box.
The play was fairly even, but Sports led when Nicky Chung hit his first for the club and after a goalmouth scramble, Sully led 3-1. Colcot fought back and soon it was 3-3 and with Sports rattled, they conceded two further goals after leading with 15 minutes of the game left.
With the recent referees' advice in the news, both teams will be out of pocket after 11 cautions were issued during the game. These fines are the responsibility of the players and the new ruling will stop fixtures if they are not paid promptly.
