Dinas fate was sealed in first half

1st Team - Welsh League Division 1

Ton Pentre 2, Dinas Powys 0

According to their programme, Ton Pentre reserve their best performances for Dinas Powys and so it was for the first half of this contest when they played well, passing accurately and working for each other, creating a string of chances.

It took just ten minutes for Ton to open the scoring from a corner, taken by Dale Price and converted at the near post by Gareth Wharton.

Just 12 minutes later they doubled their lead when a long ball was played into the Dinas area and Raith Plant scored with a low shot from six yards. For the rest of the half, the home side applied further pressure, with the only reply from Dinas being a couple of Neil Jeremy free-kicks, both off-target.

The second half started with the travelling support fearing the worst, but Dinas gradually worked their way into the game and began playing some good passing football.

On 80 minutes, a mix-up in the Ton defence gave Neil Jeremy a chance, but the home keeper bravely saved at his feet, both players continuing after treatment.

Ton Pentre deserved to win after their first-half display, but Dinas showed enough skill and determination in the second half to show that they can arrest their alarming slide down the table.

1st Team - Welsh League Division 1

Newport YMCA 0, Dinas Powys 0

Dinas battled well in this game and deserved the point in a game of few clear chances with defences on top.

As expected the home side attacked Dinas from the outset, most of their opportunities coming from corners where they had the advantage of a couple of six foot plus players but Dinas were able to deal with these situations and mount several attacks of their own.

Dinas started the second half with more purpose and from a throw on the left Steve Provis was able to put over a dangerous cross, but there was no forward there to convert.

A couple of minutes later Paul Carro ran the ball from one end of the field to the other before putting over a cross that was just too long.

Ramos Karvouniaris, Rikki Morgan and Jason Cowans had good chances, but either couldn't reach the pass or missed the net.

The 2nd team lost 0-4 to Caldicot, the third team lost 0-3 to Barry FC.
