Sports command game and top table

SULLY Sports travelled to the Rhondda for last Saturday's South Wales Senior League Division One match and found conditions very heavy on the small pitch.

They acclimatised quickly and took a 10th minute lead after Mike Lewis surged through to feed Spencer Lamb, who hit an excellent shot beyond the keeper.

Sports increased their lead when Drew Fahiya was first to react to Richards Yarr's fine centre to steer the ball in at the near post. With Ferguson commanding in the middle, Sully looked to add to their lead and the third goal came when Ferguson fed Lamb, who made no mistake from 15 yards.

The home team strung together a few chances, but it was Sully who went in at half-time in command.

Playing up the slope in the second half, Sports' defence had more to do, but Peter Jones, Gareth Powner, Ed Jones and Mike Lewis were solid.

Sully were able to drive forward again and some tough tackling followed, with Sports' keeper Barrie Niblett bravely keeping out a rare home attack. Then Mark Brown met Joe Hinds' pinpoint free kick to head into an empty net.

Sports added the fifth when Fahiya outpaced the tiring home defence and Yarr finished well at the far post. The eager Lamb missed a deserved hat-trick when driving over from close range, as Sports gained three more valuable points.

This Saturday Sports entertain bogey team Pant yr Awel at Swanbridge (players report at 1pm).
