Seamen get pampered

EVEN the saltiest of sea dogs sometimes need a bit of TLC - and that's why seven of Penarth's lifeboat crew agreed to shake off their rough and ready image and undergo a mini makeover.

The event took place at Cardiff's newest and most exclusive gentlemen's hair salon.

The crew spent the morning being trimmed, shaved, manicured and pampered at Windsor Barber's, in Cardiff's Windsor Place, before it was officially opened three weeks ago.

They were invited as guests of owner Sarah Watson, who wanted to ensure that her staff were perfectly polished and professional in their duties and that everything was running ship shape and Bristol fashion before opening to paying customers.

Penarth Lifeboat Helmsman Jamie Morgans, whose wife Emma works at the salon, persuaded his fellow crew members to succumb to a morning of hot towels, clippers, buffers, razors, foam and cologne.

Sarah was delighted that the crew enjoyed their experience.

"This was certainly a first for most of the lifeboat crew - and I hope much more relaxing than their usual training session at sea," she said.

"Now they have had the VIP treatment, I'm sure they'll be pestering their partners for pampering presents this Christmas!"

Jamie Morgans added: "Although our normal role is helping save lives at sea, there are times when we're requested to undertake more unusual duties.
