Community centre plan

ST PAUL'S Church in Penarth looks set to be transformed into a "high-quality" community centre.

A spokesman for the Vale of Glamorgan council said: "The council is working with local architectural consultants to investigate the feasibility of creating a high-quality community facility on the site."

Sarah Dawson, a member of Alexandra Ward Residents' Association, said: "We are ecstatic at the prospect of having a community centre again for the area after being without one for more than four years.

"It is fantastic that there will be a place where people are able to go to discuss issues that affect the community.

"We have been forced to use the backrooms of pubs which is not to everyone's liking.

"We are also pleased that the groups currently using St Paul's - the boxing and martial arts clubs - will be able to continue with their activities there.

"We are carrying out a consultation with people in the area to find out what kind of activities they would like to see taking place at the centre," she added.
