Terry"s Moroccan mission

A PENARTH woman who lost her best friend to cancer has raised a magnificent £3,500 for Breast Cancer Care by trekking through some of Morocco"s toughest terrain.

Terry Kibblewhite, of Victoria Square, set off for southern Morocco in October to take part in Trek Morocco 2005, organised by Breast Cancer Care.

Terry completed the trek in memory of her friend Maggie Libby - and to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

Maggie Libby set up the support group WAY for people in south Wales widowed at a young age, after losing her own husband early in life. Maggie once made an appearance on the Kilroy Show to discuss grieving for a spouse.

She found love again but tragically died of breast cancer just months after remarrying.

Terry Kibblewhite said: "The legacy she left after setting up WAY is greatly valued by people across the south Wales region. To me she was a great mate.

"At one point on the trip one of the guides got us all together and asked us to reflect in silence on why we were there.

"It was a very emotional moment as most people on the trek had lost someone special in their lives to cancer.

"Afterwards we all gave each other a hug and had a glass of champagne."

The trek, led by Berber guides, took Terry and her group through remote mud villages protected by kasbahs, high rocky plateaux, deep gorges and hidden oases.

Terry said: "I had prepared well but it was quite tough. We were trekking for six or seven hours a day, often up steep inclines, through fabulous scenery which took in the snow-capped Atlas mountains."
