VALE of Glamorgan MP John Smith has expressed his deep concern that children in Michaelston le Pit are being forced to walk to school along dangerous routes.
John Smith has backed calls for the Vale of Glamorgan Council to reintroduce school transport for pupils in the village to St Cyres Comprehensive.
Mr Smith said: "The Vale Council has recently reviewed several walking routes to school.
cfrom St Donat's to Llantwit Major School and Michaelston le Pit to the Murch, Dinas Powys have long stretches without footpaths or street lights."
The Council's Cabinet whilst acknowledging the serious concerns raised has now agreed to a further report on these and other routes surveyed but has still not reversed its previous decision not to provide school transport for these routes.
John Smith said: "I understand the Vale Council employed an independent road safety officer to walk the routes but he did so in the day time in the middle of the summer! Like many concerned parents in the Vale, I too would not want my child to attempt walking these routes on dark winter mornings and evenings.
