Arrests made in crackdown on violent crime

SOUTH Wales Police made 21 arrests in the Vale of Glamorgan last weekend as part of Operation Arrowhead.

The twelfth Operation Arrowhead between Friday and Saturday (December 17th -18th ) focused on tackling violent crime in the festive season.

In the Vale, police made one arrest for burglary, two for theft, eight for drugs related offences, one for assault, two for sexual offences, one for a traffic offence and seven for other offences.

South Wales Police carried out and arrested 385 people in relation to various offences throughout the force area, bringing the arrest total over the 2,500 mark since the inauguration of Operation Arrowhead in May 2003.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Lynch said: "This is a milestone for everybody who has been involved in the exercise.

"Arrest tallies have never been the sole focus, but they do enable us and the public to recognise the significant impact the initiative has had on crime over the last year or so."
