SPORTING folk from Penarth and Dinas Powys are benefiting after the latest round of lottery money awarded through the Community Chest scheme.
The primary aim of the scheme, which is run in partnership by the Sports Council for Wales and the Vale Council, is to help organisations develop and improve participation opportunities and standards of performance
The latest awards agreed by the Vale Community Chest Panel range from 435 to 747 and go to organisations in Penarth, Dinas Powys, Barry and Llantwit Major.
The Penarth Youth Project has been awarded 700 towards an event being run in conjunction with the Town Council and the Youth Service which aims to raise the awareness of sports and physical activities available to young people in the area.
PYP will work in partnership with the British Heart Foundation, local sports clubs and the Vale's Sports, Arts and Play Development Team to increase the number of young people leading healthy lifestyles.
Dinas Powys Football Club has been awarded 632 to provide additional training opportunities for girls, and will now send coaches on child protection, first aid and football specific coaching courses as well as purchasing equipment.
The next meeting of the Community Chest Panel will be on January 23 and grant applications must be received at least one week prior to the meeting date.
