Chance to sing the Blues with Penarth star Nick!

PENARTH boy Nick Gill showcases his rugby talent on Vale home territory as part of a Cardiff Blues under-20s squad who play at Jenner Park, Barry, on Wednesday, January 11.

The Blues' opponents will be their counterparts from Gwent Dragons and it will be the first time Jenner Park (kick-off 7.15pm) has hosted a rugby match of such significance.

To mark the occasion Draig the Dragon - mascot of the Sports Council of Wales flagship scheme, Dragon Sport - is offering free entry to all children and young people under 16.

Nick Gill, a former pupil at Stanwell Comprehensive School, has established himself as a regular in the Cardiff RFC side which plays in the Welsh premiership.

Nick joined Cardiff RFC, the feeder club for the Cardiff Blues, in 2004/2005 after winning international honours for the Welsh under-19s.

He has now switched from flank forward to wing.

He has proved himself to be a powerful and pacy attacker scoring 11 tries in 18 appearances for Cardiff RFC last season including a hat-trick in the Konica Minolta Cup against Bargoed.

Nick has also played regularly for Cardiff RFC this season and turned out in the match against Glamorgan Wanderers on December 22 and is set to play again on Saturday against Pontypridd.

Dragon Sport in the Vale of Glamorgan boasts a membership of 95 per cent in primary schools.

The scheme also works with under-eight sections in local rugby clubs and supports grass roots development in the seven sports.

Cllr Mike Harvey, Vale Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to see a live rugby match and support Vale based players."

To obtain Draig the Dragon free tickets, telephone Rachel Llewellyn on 01446 704730.

Tickets are offered on a first come, first served basis.

Dragon Sport is associated with rugby, football, netball, hockey, tennis, cricket and athletics.
